Simple , Compound and Complex Sentences

I notice that there are some pupils who are still not very clear about the three types of sentences. As mentioned earlier, you need to write different types of sentences to score.

Read and understand. If you still don't understand, get your English teacher to help you.

Simple sentence = 1 ( main ) subject + 1 main idea

Example :

Siti enjoys singing.
( subject ) + ( main idea )

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Compound sentence = 1 or more subjects + 1 or more main ideas.

Example:

Siti enjoys swimming but Liza enjoys dancing
( subject 1 ) ( main idea 1) ( subject 2 ) ( main idea 2 )

* To join the main ideas in compound sentences, we use conjunctions.
Examples of conjunctions: but, and, so, because, although , etc.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Complex sentence = 1 main idea + 1 supporting idea.

Example 1 :

The book is torn. My mother bought the book.
( The main idea ) + ( supporting idea - tell us more about the book )

The book which my mother bought is torn.

Example 2

The man is cutting the grass . He wears a cap.
( The main idea ) + ( supporting idea - tell us about the man )

The man who wears a cap is cutting the grass.

* The supporting ideas in complex sentences usually begin with these words :
who, whom, whose , which, that.
