International Collaboration with Korea

This year, the English Panel will be doing a collaboration project with pupils from Korea. On the 16 April , Mr. Chan Kim who is the coordinator of the project for Korea visited us in SKSBU. We have discussed and agreed to work on cultures of both countries.

Some of the programmes planned are as below :

1. Exchanging postcards
2. Sharing of cultures through Facebook. ( Will be initiated by our counterpart )
3. Students exchange

We have received about 600 postcards from pupils of Yakdae Elementary School, Korea.
To start the project,pupils from a few classes had replied the postcards which will be sent to Korea.

Pupils from Year 4 , 5 and 6 will be working on topics below :

Year 4 - Costumes
Year 5 - Food and Festivals
Year 6 - Places of Interest.

We are looking forward to the collaboration and hopefully it will benefit all of us.



It is hoped that the collaboration will benefit both parties.

ICAS - INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION & ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS

The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) formerly the International Competitions for Schools are produced by the Educational Assessment Australia (EAA), a not-for-profit organisation wholly owned by the University of New South Wales.

The ICAS is now held in Malaysia each year and have expanded in subject coverage and year levels. This year , the time table is as below :
Science 27/4/2010
Writing 2/6/2010
English 30/7/2010
Mathematics 3/8/2010

The content of most competition test papers is not based on any particular school curriculum, but on skills essential for success in various subjects at school and beyond. The competition results provide valuable diagnostic information that can be used to assess student strengths and weaknesses and to assist with the preparation of appropriate learning experiences.
Students at all levels of competency benefit from participation in the competitions.


Results
All students receive a diagnostic report on their performance.
Schools receive valuable statistics which will enable them to compare their students performance with the rest of their country.

Awards
Certificates are awarded on the following basis:
High Distinction (to the top 1% of entrants in each year level in Malaysia)
Distinction (to the next 10% of entrants in each year level in Malaysia)
Credit (to the next 20% of entrants in each year level in Malaysia)
Participation (to all students who did not qualify for one of the above certificates.)


Fees
RM30 per subject ( Science , English, Mathematics )
RM60 per subject ( Writing )
